Jonathan Joss, the beloved voice behind the character John Redcorn in the iconic animated series King of the Hill, was tragically shot and killed in San Antonio on Sunday, according to police. He was 59 years old.

San Antonio Police reported that the suspect, 56-year-old Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja, has been arrested and charged with murder. The incident occurred Saturday evening on Dorsey Drive. Officers responded to a report of a shooting in progress around 7 p.m. and found Joss—whose full name was Jonathan Joss Gonzales—lying near the roadway with gunshot wounds.

Authorities attempted lifesaving measures until emergency services arrived, but Joss was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jonathan Joss became a familiar voice to millions as John Redcorn, a recurring character on King of the Hill, after taking over the role from the late Victor Aaron. His deep, distinctive voice gave depth to the character and helped cement the show’s lasting cultural influence. Beyond animation, Joss also played Ken Hotate in NBC’s Parks and Recreation and appeared in films like Tulsa King and the 2016 remake of The Magnificent Seven.

His most recent acting role was in 2023, lending his voice to a character in the video game Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, which was praised for its high-quality performances.

Fans and colleagues alike were stunned by the news. As of now, Joss’s representatives and family have not issued a public statement.

His sudden death marks the loss of a cherished figure in both Native American representation and the broader entertainment industry. Known for his humor, gravitas, and commitment to bringing authenticity to his roles, Joss leaves behind a powerful legacy in television, film, and gaming.
